Angelina Jolie was spotted with British billionaire environmentalist David Mayer de Rothschild on a lunch date.
The seemingly giddy pair was spotted leaving the popular Malibu restaurant, Nobu, on Thursday, March 23. The two must have enjoyed each other’s company as their lunch date reportedly lasted about three hours.
The 47-year-old glamorous actress was seen smiling as the pair exited the celebrity hotspot. Jolie was clad in a simple black dress with cutouts in her midsection paired with black heels and sunglasses.
Mayer de Rothschild, 44, a billionaire and part of the world’s richest family, seemed in good spirits, too, as he smiled at the paparazzi and laughed with Jolie as they walked to their cars.
Jolie’s representatives have commented on the meeting and said it was strictly business. The couple appeared to be having fun while working and both have interests in volunteer work and activism.
Mayer de Rothschild is an environmental advocate and an ambassador for the Hyundai IONIQ, available as an electric or hybrid car.
The outing comes months after Jolie announced she would be stepping down as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Special Envoy. The UNHCR announced the change in December last year. Jolie also confirmed it, saying that she was grateful for having had the opportunity to work with field officers and to do lifesaving work on a global scale.
Jolie, who worked with the UNHCR for 20 years, said she felt it was time for her to take a different approach to support refugees. She said she wanted to engage with the refugees and local organizations directly and to support their advocacy for solutions.
Jolie quit her role at the UNHCR to work more with groups led by the people directly affected by conflicts.
The actress has not been in a public relationship since she split from Brad Pitt in 2016. Although they have not finalized their divorce because of custody and asset battles, they have been legally single since 2019.
It is unknown whether David Mayer de Rothschild is single at present, although he was married in 2020, according to the New York Times.
