Nathan Millard, a 42-year-old businessman from Covington, Georgia, left for a trip on February 23. On Monday, March 6, his body was found and he was declared dead.
The Georgia executive was spotted with a client at a Louisiana State University college basketball game. He had his final conversation with his wife on the phone during the game.
Millard left the bar at 11:30 p.m., apparently with his client, to head back to his hotel, the Courtyard Marriott, which is located only a couple of minutes away. He never made it back.
After being thrown out of the bar for intoxication, video surveillance caught Millard and a man walking together. Millard appears to be walking normally, but his companion gives off the impression of being inebriated. The businessman decided to visit a nearby bus station instead of the hotel, where a security guard offered to help him but Millard declined.
The two were later spotted strolling the neighborhood before Millard was ultimately seen at his hotel at 4:30 a.m., accompanied by a man in a white hat, blue shirt, and jeans.
Millard’s phone and wallet were found not far from the hotel.
Surveillance tracking from several businesses along Millard’s walking route revealed that he didn’t appear to be in any distress and there was no sign of foul play.
When Millard failed to appear for a meeting with a client the following day, the client requested that the police check on him at the hotel. A well-check on Millard in the morning revealed that he had not occupied his hotel room’s bed the night before.
The founder of Texas EquuSearch, Tim Miller, said that his business was instrumental in the search for Millard. His group reported a foul odor to the police near Scenic Highway.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reported that at 3:34 a.m., a body wrapped in plastic and a carpet was found in a vacant lot on Scenic Highway. It takes seven minutes to walk there from the bar where Millard was last seen.
A man was seen on security footage trying to use Millard’s credit card and his cell phone was found a few blocks away from the bar where the missing man was last seen. Reportedly, after questioning the cardholder, Baton Rouge law enforcement released him.
People are seeking out a man identified as Derrick Perkins, 45, after he was spotted in a Toyota Camry close to where Millard was dumped. He is a “person of interest,” or he may have information that could be useful. Perkins is already wanted for probation violation, property damage, fraud and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
No signs of trauma or evidence that the man had been struck or beaten were found in the preliminary autopsy results released by the East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office on Tuesday. The cause of death was reported to the family as a probable accidental drug overdose.
It is assumed that he died and was wrapped and dumped by someone into the vacant lot.
Millard worked in construction management. He was married and had five children.
