John Travolta, a well-known film and television actor, paid an emotional tribute to his “Grease” co-star Olivia Newton-John, who died in August, 2022 at the age of 73.
Travolta paid the moving tribute during the In Memoriam tribute at the Oscar ceremonies. He didn’t mention her name, but Travolta made it clear that he was referring to Newton-John when he delivered a well-known song lyric from the film.
According to Travolta, one of the benefits of being an actor is that they get to do what they love for a living, and sometimes even with people they love. The actor said that because the night was dedicated to celebrating the previous year’s work, it was only fitting to remember those who had died after dedicating their lives to the perfection of their art, both on and off the screen.
Travolta, visibly emotional, said that their performances had left an indelible mark on the industry, shaping and influencing many. He went on to say that the deceased had made us laugh and become dear friends, and that we will always be ‘hopelessly devoted’ to them – a reference to the famous song in “Grease,” for those who don’t remember.
