Former First Lady Michelle Obama recently revealed that she had a crying spell shortly after leaving the 2017 inauguration of former President Trump.
Michelle stated that the emotions of leaving the White House, which she and her family had called home for eight years, combined with her resentment and disappointment over Trump’s election, caused her to sob uncontrollably.
Obama stated in a podcast streamed on March 7 that when the door of the presidential airplane finally closed, she sobbed uncontrollably for approximately 30 minutes, adding that she and her family had been holding it together for the past eight years.
The new gossipy tidbit was revealed in “The Light Podcast,” which was released on Audible on March 7. During her recent book tour promoting her new book “The Light We Carry,” the former first lady recorded a podcast.
Obama reflects on her experiences with self-doubt, anxiety, and relationships during uncertain times in her book. The podcast captures conversations she had while promoting and discussing her book in six cities with moderators such as Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey, Conan O’Brien, and David Letterman.
Mrs. Obama stated that the day following Trump’s inauguration was emotional for many reasons, including the fact that the family was moving out of their home. She stated that daughters Sasha and Malia had spent more time at the White House than anywhere else, and hardly remembered Chicago where they lived before the White House. It was difficult to say goodbye to the White House staff and individuals who assisted in the girls’ upbringing.
She stated that the day was also difficult for them because they had to sit on stage and watch everything they opposed take control, adding that there was no “diversity” on stage.
Obama also stated that the crowd size was relatively small, contradicting Trump’s false claims that it was the largest turnout in history.
Michelle tweeted on Monday, March 6 to promote the podcast and expressed her hope that it would inspire others.
During an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show” in 2018, she disclosed that she stopped attempting to smile during the inauguration.
