At a residence in New Richmond, Ohio, a 13-year-old boy and three other family members were discovered dead, with a fourth seriously injured. The murder-suicide was committed by the family’s mother on February 27, and officers came across the horrific scene while attempting to serve an eviction notice.

After hearing gunshots and unable to reach the residents, officers entered the house and discovered five victims. Four of them were already deceased and have been identified as Steven Cain, 50, Theresa Cain, 46, Ethan Cain, 13, and Teresa Cain’s father, William Felton, 74. Samantha Cain, 20, was the lone survivor, according to the sheriff’s office, and she is currently in critical but stable condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The school district is mourning the death of young Ethan Cain, a middle school student, and praying for the recovery of Samantha Cain, a New Richmond High School graduate who is in her second year of college.

Tracey Miller, superintendent of the New Richmond School District, stated that a brilliant young life had been stolen in the case of 13-year-old Ethan. According to Miller, teachers prioritized dealing with bereaved students and offering a team of counselors. Students had placed words of sorrow and remembrance for Ethan on a bulletin board.

Samantha is regarded as a charming, intellectual, and brilliant young woman, according to Miller. In a small school district, everyone knows everyone, and every loss is felt.
