According to a royal expert, King Charles III is “paralyzed by fear” over deciding whether his youngest son Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, are welcome to attend his upcoming coronation.
Tom Bower, a royal biographer and commentator who writes for The Sun, believes that the King, whose coronation will take place on May 6, needs help handling Harry and Meghan at the historic event.
Bower wrote that the King has failed to repress the couple’s vile vitriol because he has been paralyzed by fear and indecision.
King Charles has reportedly reverted to his familiar stance of “dithering and worrying about how people will perceive him” in calculating whether to allow the Duke and Duchess to attend his coronation.
One of the King’s notable worries about the couple attending the event is that there is a huge possibility that they will steal the spotlight and the day will turn into a Meghan and Harry day.
According to Bower, exploiting the couple’s popularity at the historical event could actually boost the King’s status. However, that strategy could also backfire if the Prince and his wife grab the public’s attention over the coronation weekend.
The royal expert added that the couple have been humiliating the King and the royal family since “Megxit,” as their stepping back from royal duties has been called.
The Duke and Duchess, who recently received their invitations to the coronation, are still deciding whether they will make the trip and witness the new King’s ceremony despite the ongoing family feud.
The couple has, among other things, demanded that they be given a spot on the palace balcony during the coronation and that Archie’s birthday, which falls on the same date, be acknowledged at some point during the festivities if they were to attend.
According to royal insiders, their demands could throw the ceremony into chaos.
If the couple does decide to attend, it is widely expected that there will be tension between them and other senior family members.
Harry and Meghan seem to be more concerned about the role of their children, Prince Archie, who is about to turn four, and Lilibet, aged one. Much to the couple’s dismay, Archie and Lilibet have reportedly not been invited to their grandfather’s coronation and may not receive an invitation at all.
They have requested to be seated on the palace balcony on coronation day, which is strictly reserved for working family members. This, as well as other issues concerning their appearance, has become a serious bone of contention.
