The boyfriend of a female soldier who was found dead in a burning vehicle outside of a high school in Hawaii was arrested and formally charged.
Samuel Jones, 25, was arrested on March 15, according to court documents. On Monday, March 13, the body of Jones’ girlfriend, 21-year-old Laau Jordan Laulusa, was discovered in a burning vehicle, and the Honolulu Prosecuting Attorney announced that Jones had been formally charged with her murder.
Second-degree murder and first-degree arson are both among the charges against Jones.
At approximately 6:45 a.m. on Monday, police received calls about a car fire in a school parking lot. The car was on fire when police arrived and the body of a young woman was found inside. The incident occurred outside of Mililani High School in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Before the car exploded into flames, witnesses saw a man open and close the doors, according to the police report. Reportedly, the man fled on foot, but they kept tabs on him until police arrived. Several eyewitnesses reported seeing him in possession of what appeared to be a blade or knife.
Upon learning that Laulusa, age 21, had died from a stab wound to the neck, the victim’s family contacted a local news outlet to share the news. According to other sources, she suffered multiple cuts to her neck and armpit.
Family members of Laulusa said they were unaware of any tension between her and Jones because she kept to herself.
On Wednesday, the Hawaii Army National Guard announced that Laulusa had passed away. Laulusa had served with the National Guard since 2019.
The US Army says that the murder suspect, Jones, was a specialist in the US Army Reserve. He was given a $1 million bail.
