A 12-year-old Milwaukee boy is charged with fatally shooting an adult neighbor with whom he played video games after the man refused to sell the boy a gun.
Brandon Felton, a resident of Milwaukee, was found dead inside his home on March 18, three days following the shooting on March 15.
Police were able to connect the shooting to the boy after finding a receipt for a Domino’s pizza delivery that had been made using the youngster’s mobile number at the crime scene.
When speaking to the police, the boy twice changed his story after initially denying having been in Felton’s home. He made an attempt to pin the shooting on a friend of Felton he called “Sam.”
The child had been texting about stealing a shotgun and an AR-15-style rifle that Felton allegedly had in his possession, with at least one other person for about a week, according to the federal complaint. His identity is being withheld due to the boy’s age and the specifics of the case. On March 27, he made his first court appearance.
On Monday, Milwaukee County Judge Nidhi Kashyap set the boy’s cash bail at $100,000. He most likely isn’t being held at the Milwaukee County Jail, but rather at the county’s juvenile detention facility.
In Wisconsin, it is uncommon but not unheard of for kids to be charged with homicide. According to state law, minors who commit certain serious crimes must face adult criminal charges.
