A 21-year-old couple has been charged with the murder of their three-month-old baby after the child died in a St. Louis hospital from multiple injuries.

Logan Hutchings, 21, and Sophia Kelly, 21, have been charged with three first-degree murder counts of their baby, Ocean Wayne Hutchings, who died on June 14, 2022, from serious injuries. Illinois State Police arrested the couple after discovering that the child had suffered a skull fracture and several rib fractures while in the care of Hutchings and Kelly.

The Children and Family Services Department in Illinois alerted state investigators on June 12 after the infant was admitted to a hospital in Missouri.

The boy was admitted to a St. Louis hospital with multiple rib fractures and a skull fracture on June 12. He died on June 14. He was in the care of his parents before his hospital admission, according to police.

Hutchings and Kelly made posts on Facebook a few days after their son’s death that suggested that someone else was responsible for their child’s death. Logan Hutchings wrote that his world had been turned around five times after the death of his son, and he would never trust anyone again. Sophia Kelly vowed in her post that she would get justice for her sweet boy.

On Tuesday, March 4, the baby’s grandmother, Alicia Loos Hutchings, expressed her belief in her son’s innocence and claimed that someone else was responsible for her grandson’s death.

She posted on Facebook, a post that has since been deleted, that she knows in her heart that Hutchings is innocent because she knows him. She continued to say that she had given the whole situation to God because God knows the truth.

She also warned “keyboard warriors” not to judge her son as God would deal with whoever hurt her grandson.

The couple are in Washington County Jail on a one million dollar bond. They are expected to make their next court appearance on April 20.
