A domestic dispute in a NYC borough resulted in two wounded and one dead.
Police have arrested a 71-year-old man, Ming Chen, for allegedly stabbing his wife to death in their Staten Island home on Sunday night. Chen is facing charges of murder, menacing, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
According to the New York Police Department, the incident took place at around 10:15 pm on April 23. During a domestic dispute, Chen allegedly stabbed his wife, 62-year-old Xiao-Qiong Jing, in the stomach. The couple’s 41-year-old son was also injured when he tried to intervene.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Jing and Chen with stab wounds to their abdomens, and the couple’s son had a cut on his left leg. Although the investigators said that there is a possibility that Chen’s wound may have been self-inflicted, they are still trying to determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident.
Jing was rushed to Staten Island North Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Chen and their adult son were taken to Staten Island University Hospital for treatment, and both are currently in stable condition.
Earlier reports suggested that the wife had stabbed her husband and son before turning the knife on herself. However, police later determined that she was not attempting suicide and that her husband had stabbed her during the argument.
The cause of the altercation remains unclear, and an investigation is ongoing. The medical examiner will determine Jing’s cause of death.
