A 72-year-old man suffered the loss of part of his right leg due to an alligator attack at the Great Outdoors RV and Golf Resort in Titusville, Brevard County, on the east coast of Florida on April 14. He was airlifted to a Melbourne medical center for treatment.
Brevard County Fire Rescue (BCFR) officials reported the incident to the authorities, and a nuisance alligator trapper was dispatched to the scene, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Following the attack, the FWC and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office tracked down several alligators near the site. One alligator was discovered with a human foot in its mouth. Two alligators were trapped and euthanized.
A resident of the resort spoke to a news outlet, urging caution around the water, as alligators are often seen in the area during mating season. A Gatorland spokesman also warned against feeding alligators, as this can cause them to lose their fear of humans.
