A woman from Jacksonville, Florida, who had been reported missing, was found dead after her car was recovered from a pond with her remains inside.
On Monday afternoon, officials extracted a 2021 gray Toyota Camry from a pond located in Palm Coast, Florida. Inside the car, they found a deceased woman, who the medical examiner later identified as 49-year-old Erica Bergeron. She had been reported missing since Thursday, April 20 and was last seen operating the same vehicle that was discovered submerged in the pond.
Bergeron was last spotted at the Palm Coast Lanes bowling alley on Thursday, April 20, behind the wheel of a 2021 gray Toyota Camry rental. The vehicle unexpectedly veered off the road, collided with a nearby tree, and became submerged in the pond while traveling northwest on Palm Harbor Parkway. The Florida Highway Patrol verified that the gray Toyota Camry retrieved from the pond was indeed the same car Bergeron was driving at the time of her disappearance.
By 7:30 pm on Monday, the sheriff’s office declared the search for Bergeron officially over. The exact circumstances of the accident remain uncertain, and investigators have not yet determined what caused the car to leave the road. The inquiry into the tragic event is still underway.
