In a chilling incident, an Indiana woman was found on her front lawn with a knife lodged in her head, a brutal assault allegedly committed by her son.
Susan Early, 59, was discovered outside her Brownsburg, Indiana home, suffering from multiple stab wounds, including the knife still embedded in her skull, on Monday afternoon.
Remarkably, Early remained conscious and alert when officers arrived at the scene. She informed them that her 30-year-old son, Kyle Braun, had attacked her in the kitchen before fleeing shortly before 12:30 pm. Neighbors, alerted by Early’s cries for help, quickly came to her aid and directed the police towards Braun’s escape route.
Early was rushed to Eskanazi Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition, where she underwent emergency surgery to treat her life-threatening injuries.
Following an extensive neighborhood search, police apprehended Braun. He received minor medical attention at the hospital for hand injuries before being taken into custody, facing charges of attempted murder. Braun is also charged with battery by bodily waste for allegedly spitting on an officer during his arrest.
Brownsburg Police Captain Jennifer Barrett disclosed that Braun had recently escaped from a mental health facility in Ohio and had an outstanding arrest warrant. According to Barrett, Braun fled the facility while under Ohio parole officers’ supervision and tampered with his GPS monitoring device to evade capture. Police last spotted Braun on March 23.
Captain Barrett suggested that Braun’s anger issues and mental health condition likely contributed to the alleged attack on his mother. Braun is currently held without bond at the Hendricks County Jail as the investigation continues.
