A doctor in Nevada was allegedly killed by her husband after spending time with a drunk friend on a night out.
On April 15, 33-year-old Shiva Gummi called 911 to report that he had stabbed himself and was confused as to why he was not dying, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
When the dispatcher asked about his wife and if she could help with his wounds, he responded that she was lying dead next to him. Responding officers arrived at the couple’s home to find the body of 28-year-old Gwendoline Amsrala in a bedroom.
Although there was no prior history of domestic violence, a witness claimed that Gummi was angry with his wife for going out the night before. Amsrala had returned home at 9 pm after spending the night with a friend who was drunk, and Gummi arrived home at 11 pm. He was allegedly angry about his wife spending time with her friend and killed her.
First responders rushed Gummi to the hospital in critical condition, and he was later arrested and charged with open murder using a deadly weapon.
Amsrala’s loved ones are mourning her loss, and a GoFundMe campaign has raised over $35,000 to help her parents. Amsrala had just graduated from the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and was dedicated to serving her future patients. Her colleagues remember her as having a wonderful sense of humor, strength of spirit, leadership, and a charming smile. Amsrala’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 27.
