Authorities are searching for a white Lexus IS350 car after a shooting occurred at a funeral home in Washington, DC, which resulted in the death of one person and three injuries.
The fatal shooting occurred on April 11, just after a funeral service for homicide victim Stephon Lamont Carroll, 24. Police officers arrived at the Stewart Funeral Home in the city’s Northeast section after receiving reports of a shooting around 12:15 p.m.
Responding officers found two men and two women who had been shot as funeral attendees were leaving the building. A 29-year-old man identified as Terrell Coghill was pronounced dead at the scene, and police transported the other three victims to local hospitals where they were treated for life-threatening injuries.
The Metropolitan Police Department released information about the car suspected to belong to the shooter, which was captured on surveillance footage at the crime scene. The department described it as a white Lexus IS350, adding that it might be damaged at the bottom of the front passenger door.
Police Chief Robert J. Contee III has expressed uncertainty about why the incident occurred, and specific people were targeted.
Stephon Lamont Carroll was killed on March 24 in Southeast DC. Police have not made any arrests about Carroll’s murder, and the police department is offering a $25,000 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest and conviction.
