A college student from New Jersey was killed during spring break in Mexico when he fell off a hotel balcony on the third floor.
The obituary for Ohio State University student Henry Meacock states that he passed away on March 15. He was 19 years old.
A representative from Ohio State University stated that Meacock was pursuing an undergraduate degree in finance.
During spring break, Meacock was staying at the Melia Hotel in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where he fell.
The medical examiner and the Attorney General of Jalisco agree that the death was accidental. They said Meacock had been trying to jump from one balcony to another and fell when a Plexiglass platform gave way.
The victim, according to conflicting reports, was attempting to assist a young woman in retrieving a dropped phone or identification card from the girl’s balcony above him at the hotel.
Multiple Facebook users corroborated the story that Meacock fell to his death while attempting to help another guest.
Facebook users from his hometown of Westfield, New Jersey told the story that he fell through a Plexiglass platform while trying to retrieve the item the girl had dropped.
One Facebook user said he was told that a girl in the room above Meacock’s dropped her ID and it landed on the Plexiglass separating the balconies.
Meacock stepped on the Plexiglass, which collapsed under his feet.
Others on Facebook claimed that the 19-year-old wasn’t looking for an ID, but rather a phone.
Social media tributes praised Meacock as a true gentleman with a warm and generous heart.
The funeral for Meacock was held at a Catholic church in Westfield on Saturday, March 25.
Meacock was the second guest of the Melia Hotel to fall from the third floor this month. A man of 23 was more fortunate and managed to escape harm.
