Las Vegas police have made significant progress in the investigation of a homeless man’s murder that occurred in a drainage canal tunnel.
Authorities announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting that took place two months ago.
On Monday, April 24, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department revealed they had arrested a suspect in the murder of Mark Deandre Grant, a homeless man discovered lifeless near a drainage canal in Las Vegas on February 20. Police had responded to a report of an unresponsive man at approximately 2:40 am, where they found Grant dead at the scene.
The investigation determined that Grant lived in the drainage canal where he was shot. Despite his injuries, Grant managed to exit the canal before collapsing.
Police identified Jemiah Garner, 34, as a suspect in the murder last Thursday and released his mugshot on social media. Garner was already in custody at the Clark County Detention Center on unrelated charges. On Thursday, April 20, Garner was rebooked on charges of open murder using a deadly weapon.
Following the shooting, a woman claiming to be Grant’s girlfriend spoke highly of him as a great friend and partner. The investigation into the murder remains active.
