A Utah home in the Hidden Canyon Estates collapsed, and the dramatic moment was captured in a video that has gone viral.
The video shows the entire top half of a spacious two-story home slipping down a steep hillside as first responders looked on helplessly. The collapsing hillside has been consuming two homes on East Springtime Road in recent months. The house began caving in on Saturday night, and the entire top floor disappeared.
Homeowner Carole Kamradt told a local news outlet that she and her family had lived in the new home for less than a year before being forced to evacuate from the dangerous hillside in October last year. Local building officials revoked their certificate of occupancy, and Draper officials have kept tabs on the two homes ever since. They are now convinced that the neighbors are also in danger.
City officials said that the conditions were related to earth shifting. Various experts, including engineers, public safety personnel and building officials, were on site and determined that two more homes on each side of the evacuated homes needed to be evacuated. The statement said the residents of those homes had been notified of the imminent danger they were in and were evacuating.
The viral video shows firefighters outside the house as the second floor falls onto Ann’s Trail below. Edge Homes, the company which built the homes, has been under fire for the construction error, and a court forced it to buy back the houses in January. The company affirmed its dedication to justly compensating the homeowners for the trouble and disturbance they have undergone.
Kamradt spoke to the news outlet and said the mishap devastated her family and forced them to rebuild their lives. They had visualized many things for the future at the home but now have to find another dream and place to call home.
