An 18-year-old college baseball player was struck by a stray bullet during a game on April 29 at Spring Lake Park in Texarkana, Texas.

The Texarkana Texas Police Department reported that the stray bullet was fired during a neighborhood dispute nearby. Emergency responders rushed the player to St. Michael Hospital, where he underwent surgery for the gunshot wound.

The police connected the incident to reports of shots fired on Lynda Street, located west of Spring Lake Park. Officers assisting the victim at the ball field collaborated with those investigating on Lynda Street, gathering evidence and seeking witnesses. The police found several shell casings in front of a residence on Lynda Street, revealing that a confrontation between two men escalated into a shootout. Unfortunately, one stray bullet traveled about 400 yards and hit the innocent player standing in the bull pen.

Authorities identified 17-year-old Kamauri Butler and 20-year-old DeMarco Banks as the shooters and issued felony warrants for their arrests. Both fled the scene following the incident, with Butler wanted for aggravated assault and Banks for deadly conduct.

In connection to the shooting, police arrested three other individuals at the home: 49-year-old Yankeengea Smith for unlawfully possessing a gun as a felon and possessing controlled substances, including methamphetamine and Ecstasy pills; 19-year-old Nathan Moore for evidence tampering and possessing marijuana; and 19-year-old Marcell Beaver for possessing marijuana.

The injured baseball player is in stable condition and expected to recover. Due to the incident, the baseball game was canceled, and the Scout-O-Rama event, taking place in another area of the park, was also ended prematurely.
