An owner of a crocodile farm lost his life while attempting to handle one of his crocodiles.
The incident occurred at the Cambodian farm owned by 72-year-old Luan Nam in Siem Reap commune, as confirmed by Mey Savry, the local police chief.
According to reports obtained from Viral Press, a website that pays users for newsworthy videos, Nam had entered the crocodile enclosure with the intention of relocating one of the reptiles from a cage where it had laid eggs. However, the situation quickly escalated into a disaster when the creature lunged at the stick Nam was employing to manage it. This sudden attack caused the farmer to stumble and fall into the enclosure.
A horde of close to 40 crocodiles descended upon the man, causing his death. Chief Savry described the incident as a grim accident, saying that the crocodiles relentlessly attacked the farmer.
Chilling photographs captured at the scene reveal the aftermath of the attack, showing the reptiles swimming through a pool of the victim’s blood. Disturbing video footage shows officials painstakingly removing Nam’s remains from the area.
Mey Savry confirmed that Nam’s lifeless body exhibited numerous bite marks, and he lost both arms and a leg during the feeding frenzy. The crocodiles consumed the severed limbs.
Nam’s body was transported to his family home, where grieving loved ones awaited. The deceased farmer, aside from his occupation, held the position of president in the local crocodile farmers’ association. Reports indicate that Nam had been begged over the years to abandon the dangerous business.
This is not the first time Cambodia has witnessed such a horrific incident involving crocodiles. In 2019, a two-year-old girl met a similar fate when she fell into a crocodile pit on her family’s farm, and the reptiles attacked and devoured her alive.
