Another tragic incident has occurred at Google’s headquarters in New York City, with an employee taking his own life.

A 31-year-old senior software engineer jumped from the 14th floor of Google’s Chelsea office headquarters on Thursday, May 4, at around 11:30 pm. The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, fell from the building located at 111 Eighth Avenue in Manhattan.

After receiving multiple 911 calls reporting an unresponsive person on the ground, police arrived at the scene and found the man unconscious. He was quickly transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was declared dead.

According to sources, investigators discovered handprints on the ledge of a 14th-floor open-air terrace but found no note or recording of the tragic event.

This incident follows the suicide of Jacob Pratt, another Google employee who worked at the same headquarters. NYPD officers discovered Pratt hanging in a Chelsea apartment on February 16, just before 6 pm.

Google expressed its condolences for the loss of the senior software engineer, stating their sorrow upon learning of his death and offering support to his family and colleagues. The company has not provided further details about the incident.

In January, Google laid off around 12,000 employees, equivalent to six percent of its global workforce. Meanwhile, the company’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, received $226 million in compensation last year, which drew extensive criticism from employees. For comparison, Pichai received only $6.3 million for his role as CEO in 2021. Google has not commented on Pichai’s significant pay package.
