Once again, the annual Met Gala brought together the fashion world in New York City, this time paying homage to the late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.

The Met Gala, a by-invitation-only fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, is known for its celebrity guest list and extravagant costumes. This year, it showcased a stunning display of pearls, starched collars, and black and white creations, all in honor of Lagerfeld.

Under the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” attendees were asked to wear outfits that paid tribute to Lagerfeld’s incredible legacy. Lagerfeld was known for his signature look of white hair pulled back into a ponytail, complemented by dark sunglasses. Frequently photographed alongside his pampered pup, Choupette, Lagerfeld’s influence on designers and models spanned generations.

The color palette of black, white, blush, and pearls echoed Lagerfeld’s timeless Chanel look. Many gala attendees displayed looks from the label, including Margot Robbie, stunning in a 1993 dress once worn by Cindy Crawford.

Nicole Kidman flawlessly presented the “in honor of Karl” theme. The actress walked the red carpet in a vintage Chanel Haute Couture gown from Lagerfeld’s 2004 collection. The stunning design was recognizable because Kidman wore the same dress in a Chanel No. 5 commercial in 2004, directed by Baz Luhrmann.

Unlike last year, when Kim Kardashian made headlines by going on a crash diet to wear a rhinestone-studded dress once worn by Marilyn Monroe, this year Kim appeared in a Schiaparelli design dripping in pearls, inspired by her recent visit to the Karl Lagerfeld office in Paris.

Kim’s sisters, Kylie and Kendall, also made their presence felt at the fashion event. Kendall stunned in a black and silver sequin bodysuit, while Kylie showed up in a red dress with a red and blue drape.

Rapper Lil Nas X made a mythical creature-like entrance adorned with pearls and painted silver. Other celebrities collaborated with fashion houses closely associated with Lagerfeld, such as Margot Robbie wearing Chanel, Allison Williams in Patou, Kate Moss in Fendi, and Cara Delevingne wearing a design from Lagerfeld’s Couture.

Rihanna was dressed in a head-to-toe white gown, and pregnant Serena Williams wore a bump-hugging black dress covered with ropes of pearls. Doja Cat paid homage to Choupette in feline-inspired makeup and a bedazzling silver dress. Dua Lipa was elegantly dressed in a corseted white Chanel gown worn by Claudia Schiffer in 1992, and Lila Moss wore a peach dress from one of Lagerfeld’s final collections for Fendi. Olivia Wilde stood out in an iconic violin dress from Lagerfeld’s 1983 collection.

It was a night to remember.
