A one-year-old baby has tragically passed away, while a two-year-old toddler fights for her life, following a devastating driveway accident.
The heartbreaking event took place as the two young children were playing in a driveway in Oklahoma, and a 63-year-old man backed up his pickup truck into the driveway.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol released a statement revealing that the accident occurred around 5 pm on Monday, April 24. A 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck accidentally drove over the two young girls. As soon as they were alerted, state troopers and other emergency responders hurried to the scene, located about two miles south of Cleora in Delaware County. Given the severe nature of their injuries, the first responders quickly transported the injured children to a nearby medical facility.
Authorities have identified the driver as Scott Barr.
The one-year-old baby was brought to St. Francis Hospital in Vinita, where she was declared dead upon arrival due to the head injuries she sustained in the accident. The two-year-old child was then moved to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, where she is currently in critical condition, suffering from internal injuries.
The identities of the young victims have been withheld by the police, due to their ages. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is now investigating the accident to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the collision. At this time, it is unclear whether the driver, a resident of Afton, shares any family ties with the children involved.
Further details about the case have not been disclosed by the authorities, including whether they plan to arrest and charge Barr in connection with the girl’s death.
