Two people died, and one is in critical condition following a shooting incident at a Seattle park on Saturday.
Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz provided details during a press conference held at Cal Anderson Park early Sunday morning. One victim died at the scene, while another died at Harborview Medical Center. The third victim remains in critical condition at the same hospital as of Sunday evening.
Officers promptly responded to reports of the shooting near Pine Street and Nagle Place around 10:30 p.m. Video footage from the area is being reviewed to assist in the investigation.
The Seattle Police Department has not released further updates about the incident, including the shooter’s status or whether several people were involved. Details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting have also not been disclosed.
The shooting occurred in the heart of Seattle’s vibrant nightlife district, where numerous bars and restaurants were bustling with patrons enjoying the warm evening. Chief Diaz expressed disappointment, highlighting the issue of gun violence and emphasizing the need to change this behavior.
According to Seattle crime data, this marks the eighth shooting incident in the Seattle Capitol Hill neighborhood since the beginning of the year. Another incident occurred on April 1, when a dispute on East Pine Street escalated into gunfire, resulting in the tragic shooting of Elijah Lewis and his nine-year-old nephew.
Just hours after Saturday’s shooting, the police responded to another incident in West Seattle, where a woman aged 24 was shot in the abdomen. A 29-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of assault. The investigation is ongoing.
