A jury has reached a decision in the murder trial of a Wendy’s employee.
Dominique Isaac Harris, a 31-year-old man from Philadelphia, has been found guilty of first-degree murder and possession of an instrument of crime in the savage killing of his ex-Wendy’s colleague, Michael Pickens.
Throughout the four-day trial, Chief Deputy District Attorney Kristin McElroy presented evidence that Harris had been dismissed from Wendy’s two months prior following a dispute with Pickens. McElroy detailed how Harris lay in wait for Pickens outside the restaurant and attacked him as he was finishing his shift and taking out the trash. Harris repeatedly stabbed Pickens 46 times, with more than half of the wounds concentrated on the head and neck area. Pickens attempted to defend himself but ultimately succumbed to the fatal injuries.
After assaulting Pickens, Harris left the scene only to return later in his vehicle and run over Pickens twice in the parking area. He subsequently placed Pickens’ body in the backseat of his car and disposed of it a few miles away.
Investigators examined security footage that captured Harris chasing and repeatedly stabbing Pickens with a knife in the parking lot, leading to Harris’ arrest within a day of the incident.
Detectives found that Harris possessed the same make and model of the car used in the assault, which Philadelphia police later located and pulled over. During the stop, officers observed blood on the exterior of the car and a significant amount of blood in the backseat. Although they did not find the victim, Harris was taken into custody that night. The following morning, Bensalem police discovered Pickens’ body near a train station, with a jacket worn by Harris during the attack covering the victim.
The prosecution argued that Harris’s actions demonstrated his premeditated and intentional desire to kill Pickens, as he had orchestrated and executed a brutal and targeted assault. After deliberating for approximately two hours, the Bucks County jury convicted Harris. The sentencing is set to take place at a later date.
