A white female Bellevue Hospital employee in New York City has gained infamy as a “Karen” after her confrontation and meltdown with a young black bike rider over a CitiBike rental was caught on video. 

The clip, viewed by millions of people on Twitter, shows the woman in hospital scrubs trying to claim a bike that had already been paid for by the young man. In the video, the woman argues with the legitimate CitiBike user, attempts to take the bike from him, and screams that he is threatening her. Despite the young man’s calm explanations, she continues to create a scene, even claiming he is threatening her fetus.

“Help! Help me! Please, help me,” she yells, trying to attract the attention of people on the street. The young man refuses to let go of the bike and continues to explain that he has already paid for it.

Another man dressed in scrubs, presumably from the same hospital, intervenes to calm the woman down, and she eventually chooses another bicycle. A group of the young man’s friends support him, accusing the woman of feigning her hysterics. Although the incident was not reported to the New York Police Department, they acknowledged being aware of the viral video when contacted by the media.
