Three people were killed and three others injured in a shooting incident on Sunday night, June 11, in a residential area in Annapolis, Maryland.
During a news conference, Annapolis Police Chief Edward Jackson indicated that the shooting was the outcome of a personal dispute, reassuring the community that there was no enduring threat to their safety.
Chief Jackson stressed that the inquiry was ongoing and subject to changes, with several details awaiting clarification. The precise connection among the parties involved remains unconfirmed. The victims, who were aged from their early 20s to 50s, were found dead outside the dwelling. A motive for the shooting has not been definitively identified at this point.
The district where the episode unfolded, located to the south of the city center near the waterfront, was encircled by numerous police vehicles. The shooting, which was reported around 8 pm, prompted an immediate response from the officers.
According to a statement issued by the police department, one of the injured was airlifted to a trauma facility. The statement also acknowledged that a suspect was in police custody. However, Chief Jackson referred to this individual as a “person of interest,” making it clear that no charges had been pressed against them as of yet.
The police have successfully retrieved a firearm they suspect to be connected to the incident. The investigation is ongoing, as authorities attempt to decipher the events leading up to the shooting and gather additional information.
