A man from Diamond Bar, California, has been charged with the murder of two elderly women at an assisted living facility.
On Tuesday, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced that Jianchun Li, 40, had been charged with two counts of murder.
The victims, identified as Monica Moon Lee, 75, and Hee Sook Park, 83, were both residents at the Happy Home Care facility in Diamond Bar. They were found dead on June 24, prompting an immediate response from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.
District Attorney Gascón emphasized the importance of increased vigilance and scrutiny in care facilities following this tragic and brutal incident. Gascón expressed condolences to the victims’ families and promised relentless efforts to bring them justice.
The incident was reported to the police at 8:05 am on June 24, and both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. Further investigation revealed that Jianchun Li, who worked as a live-in caregiver at the facility, allegedly committed the murders.
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) has initiated an investigation into the matter. According to CDSS spokesperson Jason Montiel, the facility remains open and continues to provide care for its four remaining residents during the ongoing investigation.
Jianchun Li is currently in county jail and is being held on a $4 million bond.
