Nine people were injured in a shooting that took place on Monday, June 12, in downtown Denver, Colorado.
The shooting happened around 12:30 am, nearly three hours after the Denver Nuggets’ victory over the Miami Heat in an NBA match. At this hour, Market Street and nearby areas were still populated with basketball fans, who had been celebrating their team’s win.
Although most fans had already left the location, a small group remained when shots were fired. The shooting’s motive is still unclear, and authorities have not established any connection to the basketball match or any team allegiance of the suspect.
Among the injured, three were critically wounded and were promptly taken to a hospital. The other six victims received non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, who was taken into custody, was also injured, but it remains uncertain whether this resulted from retaliatory fire or another incident.
The events leading to the altercation that precipitated the shooting are still being scrutinized, as per police spokesperson Doug Schepman. The shooting occurred in an area filled with celebrators, especially near bars where spectators might have gathered following the match.
Law enforcement officials are presently conducting interviews with eyewitnesses, describing the investigation as comprehensive.
The post-match scene on Market Street was chaotic, with a throng of fans obstructing traffic, climbing street lights, and celebrating enthusiastically.
Authorities are continually gathering information to gain a better understanding of the circumstances and motives surrounding the shooting.
