A passenger aboard the Carnival Magic ship went missing after reportedly falling overboard during his first-ever cruise with his fiancée.
The passenger, identified as 35-year-old Ronnie Lee Peale Jr. from Virginia, was reported missing late Monday afternoon. According to a Coast Guard statement, surveillance footage from the ship revealed that Peale leaned over the balcony railing of his stateroom and fell into the water at approximately 4:10 am.
The incident took place about 185 miles east of Jacksonville, Florida in the early hours of Monday, May 29, as confirmed by the US Coast Guard. Following the incident, an extensive search operation utilizing aircraft and ships was initiated by the Coast Guard to locate Peale. Although officials have not publicly released his name, Peale’s fiancée, Jennilyn Michelle Blosser, confirmed to a news outlet that he was the individual who went overboard.
The search for Peale has been called off, and in anticipation of the worst outcome, Blosser has set up a GoFundMe campaign page to raise funds for funeral expenses. According to the campaign’s description, initiated by Blosser on Tuesday, the couple embarked on the cruise to celebrate her birthday. Departing from Norfolk, Virginia, on Thursday, May 25, the cruise was bound for the Bahamas before returning to port. Blosser shared that this was Peale’s first cruise and he was thoroughly enjoying the experience, making new friends as a sociable person who loved connecting with others.
Carnival Cruise Line confirmed that the ship’s captain was directed by the Coast Guard to return to the port in Norfolk, Virginia, where it arrived as scheduled on Tuesday.
