A vehicle accident claimed the lives of two adults and left a one-year-old child fighting for her life on Tuesday, June 13.
The vehicle was a converted school bus that veered off the road, rolling down a treacherous hill about 400 feet, according to Colorado State Patrol Master Trooper Gary Cutler.
All five people traveling in the vehicle were ejected during the incident. A 47-year-old male, believed to be the driver, and a 34-year-old passenger succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The one-year-old critically injured was airlifted to the hospital via helicopter for life-saving medical treatment. A three-year-old male and a seven-year-old male, both with moderate injuries, were transported to the nearby hospital. None of the passengers were wearing a seatbelt.
The exact identities of the victims have not been disclosed, pending notification of their families. and it is not known if they were members of the same family. The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office reported that the accident occurred on Pingree Park Road, a location with rugged, mountainous terrain. Emergency services and Larimer County Search and Rescue were deployed to the scene to provide assistance.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office informed the public about the distressing incident. They received a call from the Emergency Communications Center around 8:30 pm, alerting them to a single-vehicle rollover crash on Pingree Park Road. Poudre Canyon Fire, Poudre Fire Authority, and UCHealth were dispatched to the scene upon reports of five injured people. Larimer County Emergency Services and Larimer County Search and Rescue, Inc. were summoned due to the challenging terrain.
The Colorado State Patrol is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.
