Two Americans were discovered dead in their hotel room on Tuesday evening, June 13, as confirmed by local authorities.
Police reports state that emergency medical teams were informed about the lifeless condition of the two Americans, previously thought to be in their mid-30s, at the Rancho Pescadero Hotel in El Pescadero, Mexico, around 9 pm on Tuesday. Regrettably, the duo was deceased by the time the medical team reached the scene.
Early investigations are indicating the possibility of death due to gas inhalation. Housekeepers and guests had complained to management that there was the smell of gas on the property. Reportedly, carbon monoxide detectors had been dismantled in January due to complaints about noise from the alarms going off. When fire fighters entered the room they were overwhelmed by the smell of gas.
The deceased were later identified as Abby Lutz, 22, and John Heathco, 41. The Attorney General’s Office in Baja California Sur announced that Lutz was a resident of Newport Beach, California.
Officials confirmed that Lutz and Heathco were dead for approximately 11 hours before their bodies were found. Furthermore, the Attorney General’s Office did not report any signs of physical harm on the bodies.
The incident took place at the Hotel Rancho Pescadero, an upscale establishment associated with the Hyatt brand. Despite the request for a comment, Hyatt has not issued a statement concerning the incident.
The investigation into this unfortunate event is being spearheaded by the local attorney general.
Sadly, the couple had gone for medical care thinking they had food poisoning but returned to their hotel.
