Two brothers tragically lost their lives in a cliff diving accident at Fort Gibson Lake, Oklahoma.
On Friday, June 9, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to an urgent call concerning a possible drowning incident at the lake. The initial probe revealed that of the three individuals who took the leap into the water from the Rocky Point locale, only one resurfaced.
The unfortunate siblings were part of a group of four that was cliff-diving when a sudden storm swept through. The abrupt wind gusts and towering waves posed a formidable challenge to their efforts to reach the shore.
Kalub Mayton, a 16-year-old boy, rushed back into the water seeing his brother in distress, but failed to save either his brother or himself.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, a team of committed divers embarked on an extensive search operation, ultimately locating the bodies of Kalub and his brother Damian Mayton in 12 feet of water on the morning of Saturday, June 10.
The Mayton brothers, Damian, 19, a Fort Gibson Public Schools graduate, and Kalub, a current student, were appreciated in their community. Their sudden loss deeply affected the community, and the school district mourned their passing with a Facebook post, stressing the importance of the fond memories they left behind.
The Mayton family resides in the town of Okay, approximately 50 miles south of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
