Three teenagers from Georgia are now facing serious charges of felony murder after a 22-year-old man died during an egging prank.
As per the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office, the individuals implicated in this tragic event are McKenzie Davenport, 19, Jeremy Munson, 18, and Sydney Maughon, 18. These teenagers are now charged with battery, criminal trespass, and malice murder relating to the death of Johnathan Gilbert, also known as Tyler Lane.
Sydney Maughon, alleged to have fired the deadly shots, is under additional charges of firearm possession, murder, and aggravated assault. Her battery charge is particularly classified as a case of “family violence.”
Jeremy Munson faces severe charges that include murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the crime, alongside the original allegations.
A press release by Sheriff Darrell Dix on Friday mentioned that an eyewitness’s account enabled investigators to draw a connection between the suspects and the victim. This information led them to a house in Henry County where the car used during the incident was parked. A subsequent search warrant for the car and the home unveiled the firearm believed to have been used in the incident.
The authorities infer that an ongoing “lover’s quarrel” between Gilbert and the suspects could have incited the incident. The trio allegedly intended to egg Gilbert’s house as a prank, but their plan took a deadly turn when Gilbert confronted them, prompting their hasty escape.
In the ensuing chaos, an unarmed Gilbert approached their vehicle, and Sydney Maughon, from the back seat, reportedly shot at him multiple times, resulting in his death. The teenagers then drove off, leaving Gilbert’s body on Dobbins Mill Road.
In concluding remarks, Sheriff Dix underlined that the shared planning and actions of the teenagers render them all responsible for the fatal outcome.
