The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has revealed the cause of death for Lisa Marie Presley.

The 54-year-old star, best known as a singer-songwriter and daughter of the iconic Elvis and Priscilla Presley, died due to complications stemming from a small bowel obstruction.

Lisa Marie passed away on January 12. Notably, the medical examiner’s report stated that the obstruction in her small bowel, which developed into a strangulated condition, was an outcome of adhesions that resulted from her previous bariatric surgery.

Dr. Juan Carrillo, the Deputy Medical Examiner, pointed out that such complications are recognized as potential long-term risks associated with these types of surgeries.

The period subsequent to Lisa Marie’s death was marked by considerable tension within her family. Priscilla Presley, her 78-year-old mother, endeavored to take control of her late daughter’s trust, aiming to put Lisa Marie’s daughter, Riley Keough, at the helm. This decision led to a series of disagreements and legal actions disputing the legitimacy of a 2016 trust amendment that had removed Priscilla as a co-trustee.

Nevertheless, those close to Lisa Marie maintain that it was her wish for her legacy to be inherited by her children. Joel Weinshaker, the managing partner at Elvis Presley Enterprises, reiterated this, confirming that Lisa Marie had communicated her wishes to Riley and her brother, Benjamin Keough. In June, a settlement was achieved, with Riley taking up the role of sole trustee of her mother’s estate.

Lisa Marie’s death came two days after she attended the 2023 Golden Globe Award alongside her mother and actor Austin Butler. A memorial service was held on January 22 at Graceland, where many attended to pay their respects to the late star.
