Elton John made an appearance on Monday, July 17, at Kevin Spacey’s sexual assault trial.
Speaking remotely from Monaco, John provided a counter-narrative to an accuser’s claim of Spacey’s inappropriate advance during a car ride to John’s residence.
Spacey, 63, is contesting charges ranging from sexual and indecent assault to causing someone to engage in sexual activity without consent. His testimony last week denied allegations of sexual assault by three of four accusers recounting unsettling experiences from 2001 to 2013.
John’s testimony disputed one such allegation, the supposed forceful grabbing of a guest during a drive to John’s gala ball in either 2004 or 2005. John stated that Spacey attended his annual gala ball only once, back in 2001, and further spent the night at his home after the event. This, he noted, was the same night Spacey purchased a Mini Cooper at an auction for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
Spacey, during his testimony, recognized an awkward encounter that occurred while he was under the influence of alcohol. However, he dismissed allegations of a “crotch-grabbing” incident as fictitious. He admitted to having consensual encounters with two others who, he said, expressed regret later.
