A five-year-old boy died in an accident in South Bend, Indiana, after his father accidentally ran over him with his vehicle.

Jeremiah Holmes passed away on Sunday, July 23, after the accident that occurred in his apartment complex’s parking lot.

St. Joseph County Police, along with other local authorities, rushed to the scene in response to an emergency call they received at approximately 10:30 pm on Saturday, July 22. The call reported an unresponsive child.

According to reports, the boy’s father, 28-year-old Christopher Holmes, was identified as the driver involved in the accident.

Despite immediate medical attention and being rushed to a nearby hospital, Jeremiah did not survive his injuries. His father, Christopher Holmes, while understandably distraught, did not suffer any physical injuries during the incident. He fully cooperated with the law enforcement officials during their initial investigations, which are still underway.

Information regarding whether Christopher and Jeremiah lived together or resided in the apartment complex remains unconfirmed. No official statement about potential charges has been released yet.

A news release said the accident scene was chaotic and witnesses talked about a shooting, which turned out to be false.

To support the bereaved family, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched. The organizer of the fundraiser, Markia Gee, seeks to collect resources to lay the child to rest. The family expressed their gratitude for the prayers and condolences, humbly requesting further assistance that anyone is able to provide.
