A dog attack in Florida has resulted in the death of a six-year-old boy, prompting his family to request the euthanization of the dog involved.
Following the attack on July 4, Daylan Guillen was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he later succumbed to serious injuries inflicted on his upper torso. Local authorities are investigating the incident to determine whether charges are warranted.
Todd Garrison, the North Port Police Chief, communicated his heartfelt condolences to Daylan’s bereaved family. As a parent and pet owner himself, Garrison expressed his understanding of the profound loss suffered by the family.
The three-year-old pit bull mix, responsible for the attack, had no recorded history of aggression. Nevertheless, the dog is currently quarantined by the Sarasota County Animal Services. After a compulsory 10-day period, the dog will be euthanized at the request of the owners.
The question of culpability for Daylan’s untimely death is part of the ongoing investigation. Despite the circumstances, the family insists that the dog had not displayed any aggressive tendencies before the tragic event.
Daylan’s death has caused immense grief among the North Port community, particularly his little league baseball team. A vivacious and kind-hearted child, Daylan also served as a bat boy for his older brother’s team. To help cover the funeral expenses, a GoFundMe page has been established by the family.
