Maryland police are on the hunt for a 21-year-old woman implicated in a violent episode at Keith & Sons Soul Food Cafe, leading to the demise of a 62-year-old man.
The episode transpired on July 8 in Prince George’s County.
According to information provided by the Prince George’s County Police Department, a dispute ensued between Mervyn Daniel, 62, and Raykia Poston, 21, within the establishment. Cafe employees stepped in to defuse the situation, after which Poston and an associate, Jesse Culley, 37, vacated the premises, only to return shortly.
Eyewitness accounts state that Poston alleged missing $10 and made a bold threat, “I will kill everybody in this store.” An argument between Poston and Daniel rekindled, meanwhile Culley made a backdoor entry brandishing what appeared to be “a piece of wood.”
It’s purported that Poston seized a butter knife from the counter amidst the dispute and used it against Daniel. Following the assault, Culley and Poston were captured on CCTV footage fleeing via the back exit and departing in Culley’s van.
Upon arrival, emergency teams found Daniel grievously wounded and unresponsive. He was rushed to a medical facility but was declared deceased upon arrival.
Police uncovered a knife smeared with blood and a concealed cell phone in the eatery’s kitchen. Culley is currently under detention, however, Poston is still at large and sought for first-degree murder and associated offenses.
The incident is under active investigation as authorities strive to determine the crime’s motivations and circumstances.
