A 51-year-old Adelaide resident, has been charged with murder and attempted murder after he allegedly shot his wife and daughter on Saturday, July 15.
Police received calls of gunshots in the suburban neighborhood of Campbeltown in Adelaide, South Australia’s coastal capital, around 1:20 pm, which precipitated their swift response.
The authorities found 51-year-old Aleksandra Vergulis, and 22-year-old Daniela Vergulis, in their driveway, both victims of gunshot wounds at the hands of Vasilis Vergulis. The mother was declared dead at the scene while the daughter, despite her severe injuries, survived and was transported to a local hospital. As of the most recent updates, Daniela is reported to be in stable condition.
Following the shooting, Vergulis hid himself within their house, leading to a tense standoff with police that lasted over three hours. The suspect finally surrendered after extensive negotiations.
As authorities press on with their investigation, Vergulis has been denied bail and is set to appear in court on the following Monday.
