A 17-year-old high school lacrosse star tragically lost her life in a boating accident off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Sadie Mauro, a rising senior at Dover-Sherborn High School, fell overboard after her boat collided with a jetty in Sesuit Harbor around 9 pm on Friday, July 21.
The Coast Guard and local dive teams, according to reports, discovered Mauro’s body on a nearby beach approximately two hours following the accident.
Sadie was an integral part of the 2021 and 2022 Dover-Sherborn Girl’s Lacrosse state championship teams. Additionally, she served as a defender/midfielder for the prestigious Mass Elite Lacrosse club. Mauro had already committed to playing Lacrosse at Gettysburg College, a Division III powerhouse in Pennsylvania, as indicated on her LinkedIn page.
Apart from Sadie, six other people were aboard the vessel at the time of the accident. One of them, a 17-year-old boy, suffered a head injury and was taken to a local hospital.
In the wake of this tragic incident, the Dover-Sherborn High School community has come together to express their grief and to share cherished memories of Sadie. She was described by Dover-Sherborn High School Principal, John Smith, as possessing a heart of gold and a love for outdoor adventures. Sadie’s smile and her kindness left a lasting impression on her peers and teachers.
