A 36-year-old mother of four lost her life after falling on a treadmill during her routine workout at LA Fitness gym in Kent, Washington.
The tragic incident occurred on July 21 while the victim, Delrie Rosario, was accompanied by her sister, Marissa Woods, in a workout they routinely engaged in.
Rosario tripped and hit her head on the treadmill while attempting to decelerate it. Woods called for CPR assistance, but the gym staff did not take part in the rescue efforts. Instead, other gym-goers halted their workouts to help, with the gym staff noticeably unresponsive. LA Fitness refrained from making any public comments on the incident.
Despite the rescue efforts, Rosario was unconscious and later declared dead at a local hospital.
Known for her unwavering commitment to her children, Delaino, Rickey, Ric’Kae, and Delaiah, Rosario was a hardworking mother who held down two jobs to ensure their welfare. Her affection for her children was evident in her actions and her self-description on her Facebook page as “the momma.”
In the aftermath of the tragic incident, Rosario’s colleagues initiated a GoFundMe page to provide financial assistance to her children during these trying times.
Despite the rarity of treadmill-related fatalities, the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s National Electronic Injury Surveillance System reported in 2019 that exercise equipment injuries lead to over 400,000 Americans seeking treatment annually, with home treadmills accounting for nearly 16,000 emergency room visits in 2020.
