Newly released body cam footage captured the moment when responding officers heard the final shot in a shocking murder-suicide case involving the in-laws of Jimmie Johnson, a NASCAR racing star.

In late June, the bodies of Terry Janway and Jack Janway, Johnson’s mother-in-law and father-in-law respectively, along with their 11-year-old grandson Dalton Janway, were found in their Muskogee, Oklahoma, home. According to Muskogee Police spokesperson, Lynn Hamlin, Terry Janway had shot both her husband and grandson before turning the gun on herself.

A 911 call alerting police to a disturbance involving a firearm was terminated abruptly. The police body cam footage displayed the disturbing scene, with officers discovering the body of Jack Janway covered with a blanket in the living room. As they were about to enter the house, a single gunshot can be heard resonating in the footage.

Information from the interrupted 911 call suggests that Terry Janway had claimed there was an armed intruder in the house before ending the call suddenly. Law enforcement confirmed that the incident was a murder-suicide, reassuring the local community that there was no persistent threat.

In the wake of the incident, Johnson, a famous NASCAR driver, decided to abstain from a scheduled race in Chicago.

Mayor of Muskogee Marlon Coleman, who was also a patient of Jack Janway’s chiropractic practice, expressed his shock and grief at the appalling event. The Janway family had filed for bankruptcy last month, revealing an outstanding debt of around $475,000.

Insiders have hinted at Terry Janway’s silent struggle with depression, following her son’s death in a skydiving accident nine years prior, as a potential reason behind the tragedy.
