An accident involving a three-year-old operating a golf cart led to the death of a seven-year-old boy in Buckingham, Florida, about 10 miles from Fort Myers.
The accident, as described by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), unfolded when the toddler lost control of the golf cart, on private property, while navigating a curve. The golf cart went off its trajectory, colliding with the older boy, who was in his front yard around 4 pm on Monday, July 17.
The victim was quickly transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where despite attempts to save his life, he was declared dead.
The FHP has acknowledged that the involved children were brothers, although it is yet to be determined if an adult was present and supervising the three-year-old at the time.
Initiating an inquiry into the incident, the FHP aims to comprehend how the toddler was allowed to access and operate the golf cart. “Our hearts and our prayers go out to this family,” expressed Lt. Greg Bueno of the FHP, labeling it an “unspeakable tragedy.”
He further stated that the ongoing investigation would explore potential child neglect and possible liabilities.
