A toddler died in an accident involving window blinds in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The tragic event occurred in a residential area on South Irwin Avenue at approximately 3:30 pm on Thursday, July 20, as verified by the Green Bay Police Department. In the child’s bedroom, a pull cord attached to the window blinds became a fatal trap, causing accidental asphyxiation. This was confirmed by the Brown County Office of the Medical Examiner.

These types of incidents are distressingly frequent. Reports by the Consumer Product Safety Commission present grim figures; annually, an average of nine children aged five or under are victims of strangulation from window covering cords. Between 2009 and 2021, over 200 accidents involved window cords and children aged eight or under, almost half of which resulted in death.

The impacts of these incidents often linger for survivors, with life-altering injuries such as brain damage and quadriplegia occurring in many cases.
