A tragic incident transpired on Interstate 75 in Kentucky, adjacent to the Ohio border, on July 16.
A tire dislodged from a northbound truck, crossed over the median and crashed into 18-year-old university student Lauren Collins’ vehicle traveling southbound.
The tire is believed to have come from a dual-wheel pickup truck. On striking Collins’ 2012 Buick LaCrosse, it caused significant damage to the vehicle. Collins, the only occupant of the car, was subsequently transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center following a skilled rescue operation by the Walton Fire Department.
Despite the medical team’s best efforts, Collins succumbed to her severe injuries. She was a resident of Independence, Kentucky, and was enrolled as a freshman in the University of Kentucky’s fashion merchandising program.
A Facebook post by a cousin mourned her loss, reminiscing about their shared moments and cherishing Collins as a beautiful soul. An investigation is ongoing to identify the truck and its driver involved in the accident.
