A tragic vehicular incident occurred on Interstate 390 near Wayland, New York, when a passenger van carrying 13 individuals overturned multiple times.
The group was traveling from Pennsylvania to Niagara Falls. The accident took place at approximately 9:15 am on Saturday, August 19, and initial investigations point to a malfunction in the van’s rear wheel as the potential cause, causing the driver, Adrian Andrade-Delores, 41, to lose control and collide with a median.
The involved vehicle, a 2005 Ford, was ferrying three families from Pennsylvania. Following the accident, one young male occupant, Alex Andrade, 12, was immediately declared dead, while the rest were transported to different healthcare facilities. Among the injured, a pregnant woman, Margarita Ramirez-Luna, 40, later died. Due to the severity of injuries, two passengers required airlifting to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Evidence of the collision’s severity was apparent in images of the van showing extensive structural damage.
However, in a bittersweet turn of events, the child of the deceased pregnant woman was successfully born and is currently at Strong Memorial Hospital, as reported by Trooper Commander Brian J. Ratajczak.
The van’s passengers ranged in age from 1-43. Investigative procedures continue.
