A man in North Carolina has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting two women, one of whom was pregnant. The unborn child did not survive.
The accused, 24-year-old Jermaine Jabbar Florence Jr., was formally charged with murder following the incident. A press release from the Fayetteville Police Department stated that the baby died after an emergency C-section.
On the evening of August 19, law enforcement officers responded to a report of a female shot in the stomach. Upon arrival, they discovered two women with gunshot wounds. The first victim, in an advanced stage of pregnancy, was in critical but stable condition, while the other victim’s condition was stable.
The medical examiner confirmed that the infant’s death resulted directly from the shooting and Florence faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to cause serious injury, felony conspiracy, and related offenses, such as shooting into an occupied vehicle and dwelling.
Florence is currently in custody at the Cumberland County Detention Center without the option of posting bond.
