A five-year-old boy died in an accident in South Bend, Indiana, after his father accidentally ran over him with his car.
Jeremiah Holmes lost his life on Sunday, July 23, following the accident that occurred in his apartment complex’s parking area.
An emergency call at approximately 10:30 pm on Saturday, July 22, brought St. Joseph County Police and other local responders to the scene, reporting an unresponsive child.
The driver implicated in the accident was identified as 28-year-old Christopher Holmes, Jeremiah’s father.
Despite immediate medical care and being quickly transported to a nearby hospital, Jeremiah succumbed to his injuries. Christopher, although understandably shaken, was physically uninjured. He has been cooperative with the law enforcement officials during their primary investigation, which remains ongoing.
The residential status of Christopher and Jeremiah, whether they were living together or if their residence was in the apartment complex, is yet to be confirmed. No information has been released concerning any forthcoming charges.
Initial witness accounts alluded to a shooting at the scene, which was later clarified as incorrect in a news release.
A GoFundMe campaign was set up to assist the mourning family, with the aim to gather funds for Jeremiah’s funeral expenses. The family has conveyed their gratitude for the sympathy and condolences extended to them, and humbly requests further assistance that can be given.
