A 78-year-old great-grandmother died days after an altercation over her daughter’s unpaid rent in Maple Grove, Minnesota.
The incident occurred on June 27 when Sheila Wobbeking, 78, visited her daughter, Nicole Wobbeking, who lived on a property the elder Wobbeking owned.
During the encounter, Nicole allegedly slapped her mother and forcefully pushed her down a flight of stairs. She was reportedly then struck in her ribs and hips with an unopened pasta sauce can. She suffered a broken ankle and complained of rib pain due to the fall.
Nicole Wobbeking was arrested on June 29 and initially faced assault charges. However, on July 5, officers were called to Sheila Wobbeking’s home in Plymouth for a medical emergency.
Following an autopsy, authorities determined that Sheila Wobbeking’s death was related to the prior assault. She died from a pulmonary embolism that directly resulted from the broken ankle suffered in the attack, leading the Maple Grove Police Department to seek homicide charges against Nicole Wobbeking.
At the time of her passing, Sheila Wobbeking was remembered by her family and friends for her wit, love, and unwavering support. She leaves behind four children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Nicole Wobbeking remains in custody, facing charges of fifth-degree domestic assault and third-degree domestic assault.
